Bill Cosby Faces Numerous Sexual Assault Allegations

John Lisankie, Staff Writer

Sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby, which have been around for more than ten years, once again started to reappear a couple of months ago in October.

At least 21 women have come forward telling very similar stories about the alleged assaults, including one who says that she was only 15 when Cosby assaulted her.

Born on July 12th, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cosby became famous off of his 1980s greatly successful sitcom, The Cosby Show, in which he played Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable.

For many who watched the show, he was seen as a great father-like figure who could be looked up to. However, with all of the allegations that have been swirling around Cosby for the last 10 years or so, most will never be able to see him the same way.

According to CNN, in January of 2004, the sexual assault allegations began, when Andrea Constand, director of the Temple University women’s basketball team said that Cosby drugged and assaulted her less than two years prior.

As allegations have started to show up over the past ten years, we have learned that Cosby has allegedly been sexually assaulting women since the 1970s. The women that are saying that Cosby did these things to them nearly all say that Cosby first drugged them before performing the assault.

Cosby has strong ties to the Philadelphia, PA area as well as to its most notable college Temple University, which he attended from 1961-1962. Cosby recently resigned from the Temple University Board of Trustees. Another university that Cosby attended was the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, which recently cut ties with Cosby as a result of the scandal.

P.J. Masten, who said she was assaulted by Cosby in 1979 said, “I want him to suffer like we’ve all suffered.” Masten said she knows other women who have not yet come forward.

According to TIME Magazine, from their accounts of how Cosby allegedly raped them to the details of their traumatic experiences trying to recover, the women share remarkably similar stories. They all said the actor had drugged and raped them, and many said they told someone in the immediate aftermath of the alleged crime.

Cosby has always and still is denying that the crimes ever happened, saying that he has never even heard the names of the majority of his alleged victims. Cosby wants it to be clear that he is innocent, even though it seems as though he has already been convicted in the public eye.

Because of the allegations, several of his performances on his comedy tour have gone from sold out to barely half way there. Not only this, but Cosby had his life threatened and had to cancel several other of his performances  on his tour.

As witnesses continue to come forward with more and more details regarding the alleged crimes, the worse Cosby looks in the public eye.
