The Paw College Checklist

Dan Cretella and Katie Sciortino

If you’re a senior in highschool right now it’s likely that you’ll be off at college this coming fall. Congratulations! But now you need to ask yourself “What do I bring with me?”. Don’t worry, here at The Paw, we’ve created a list of things that you’ll want to take with you to college:

  • A pillow, sheets, and a blanket
  • Travel coffee mugs
  • Poster putty and adhesive based wall hooks (because most colleges will not allow you to put nails in the wall to use as hooks)
  • Headphones, music player, cell phone, chargers, tablets, e-readers, and chargers for those devices
  • Power strip that has been approved by your housing office
  • Desk lamp
  • A TV that will comfortably fit in your dorm
  • Small fan
  • Small refrigerator that has been approved by your housing office
  • Storage containers and organizers
  • Towels, soap, shampoo, razors, shaving cream, shower tote, and tissues
  • Laundry basket, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets
  • Band-aids, cold medicine, aspirin, and a first aid kit
  • Laptop/computer
  • Binders/folders, paper, pens, pencils, a calculator, dictionary/thesaurus, a backpack, and a day planner
  • Clothes that are seasonally appropriate (this depends on the location of the school that you’re attending)
  • Debit card
  • Flashlight
  • Camera
  • Batteries
  • Sports and recreation equipment

All of these items are well and good, but here are some things that you definitely should not bring with you to college:

  • Hot plates
  • Pets
  • Extension cords
  • Any appliances that have not been approved by your housing office

We hope this list helps make the transition into college easier, congratulations and good luck Class of 2015!
