Six people were killed and seven people were injured in a car chase in Edna, Texas on September 24th, 2015 when Police were in pursuit with a SUV that was carrying illegal immigrants from Central America. Immigrant officials that are conducting a criminal investigation about the crash determined that the Ford was being used to smuggle 12 illegal immigrants across the border from Central America.  The driver, an American citizen who died at the scene, was believed to be members of a smuggling organization. Police started chasing the suspects in an SUV near Edna after an alleged traffic violation along Highway 59. The driver refused to stop and the chase ensued through the small town up and down Highway 59. The SUV eventually rolled north off the Loop 521 exit, throwing several occupants out of the car and shutting down the entire highway. The police were able to detain the runaway immigrants and are now investigating the smuggling organization.
