On November 13th of this year, Justin Bieber dropped his brand new album named, Purpose, full with songs surrounding the questions and doubts of love, which were seemingly based around his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. After three full years (2012-2015) of absolutely no music from this young artist, his fans found themselves desperate with the question, Where Are You Now, Justin???

This editorial is going to include my personal opinions on one of the songs from his new album. Please keep in mind that I am in no way intending to sway your own opinions.

When I first found out that Justin came out with a song that was titled, Love Yourself, I was very pleased to hopefully be given a boost of confidence after listening to it, although to my surprise, I was very insulted (for Selena in particular).

Before I share, to confirm the fact that the song is directed toward Selena Gomez, in an interview done by Access Hollywood on November third, the question “But how much of the new release is actually inspired by Justin’s most notable ex- Selena Gomez?” was addressed by Justin.

He replied, “A lot of it, dude. A lot of it.”

Anyways, in contrast to my expectations, almost the entire song is surrounded by the ideas of Selena being too confident in herself and the imprint that their love had on Justin, as well as how he feels that she was merely using him.

For example, one of the lyrics in the song is, “You think you broke my heart, oh girl for goodness sake. You think I’m crying on my own, well I ain’t.” In my opinion, that lyric is far too insensitive and completely self-centered of Justin to write to a girl who was feeling broken-hearted and confused herself.

This is another lyric that I believe is the most insulting out of the entire song: “My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.” If someone were to tell me this, I would end up feeling nothing but worthless and unwanted.

Plus, I find it ridiculously ironic that the song includes lighthearted music (acoustic) in the background and a graceful tone, while Justin is making harsh and blatantly honest comments.

Is Bieber aware of the fact that he is sending a negative message about himself to his fans? Even though he might think that the song serves justice to expressing his true opinions to Selena, it also serves justice to show what kind of person Justin really is. He should have said the things he said about Selena privately to her face, not publicly through a song.
