What Makes a “Good” Student at WMC?

Daelien Drake, Broadcast Director

West Morris Central High School is ranked 44th in the state of New Jersey and ranked #1324 in National rankings. West Morris has been helping children grow into young adults since 1958.

Here at West Morris Central both our staff and students do what they can to make WMC a comfortable environment. So, what does make a “good” student at West Morris?

98% of the students who go to West Morris Central graduate and proficiency in math and english range from 95% to 98%. Yes, we have successful and smart students but just because majority of the students have “good” grades does not mean they are a good student.

At West Morris we don’t define our students as “good” or “bad” but we define them by the actions they take. A student could be failing a class but that does not mean he isn’t a “good” student. He could always be doing his work but just does not comprehend the information.

Is it even fair to define anyone as a “good” student? When we think of good we imagine someone or something that’s technically right.

From my own personal experience the teachers here at West Morris have always shown concern for their students. Even though this is a public school the teachers care about our ability to learn. If you are not understanding what is being taught and you go to a teacher about it they will take it into consideration and do whatever they can to help you. If you show no interest and are wasting there time then that’s when the blame falls on you. You must put in an effort to achieve success it doesn’t just happen.

So, being a “good” student is up to you! Just because your grades are not all A’s doesn’t mean you’re a bad student. Try your hardest, be respectful, and take advantage of the academic opportunity at West Morris Central; that’s what makes you a “good” student!
