West Morris’ Running Attack too Much for Mendham

On Saturday October 12, the West Morris Wolfpack defeated their sister school, Mendham, by a score of 28-21. This was the second straight road game for West Morris and coming off of a 3-0 loss to Morristown the team needed a win.

Junior fullback Connor Thompson started the scoring for the Wolfpack by punching in a 1 yard touchdown run early in the first half. “It’s always a good feeling to beat Mendham at their place, it was a fun game” said Thompson who was a key contributor to the win. Senior runningback Javier Murray continued the scoring for West Morris by capping off a 55 yard drive with a 15 yard touchdown run. Quarterback Collin Sokolowski completed a two point conversion to Ryan Pruss to push the lead to 14-0 in favor of West Morris.

Mendham would answer with a one yard touchdown run by Tim Byrne to cut the lead to 14-7 and the teams would go into halftime locked at that score.

Murray would add another touchdown run of 10 yards in the second half to push the lead back up to 14 as the Wolfpack lead 21-7.Byrne would answer twice more for Mendham as he added two more touchdown runs himself.

Tied at 21 with fifty seconds left Murray took the ball on a sweep and ran thirty five yards into the end zone to seal the game for West Morris, improving their record to 3-2 on the season.

Murray completed the game with 14 carries for 114 yards and three touchdowns while Thompson added 118 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. Another notable performance was senior Kevin Hennelly who ran 12 times for 72 yards.

Tim Byrne finished the game with 52 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Minutemen.
