The Wolfpack is known throughout Long Valley as a team not to be messed with.

The Wolfpack is known throughout Long Valley as a team not to be messed with.

Can the three captains lift up the Wolfpack and carry them to a state championship and bring excitement to the school?
Every great team starts with leadership at the top, where captains of the team are depended on the most. Connor Thompson, Kevin Sears and Alex Hughes were the captains chosen by the team for the 2014 season.
Coach Hennelly says, “All three captains have different ways of leading the team, and all three take control of different parts of the offense and defense.”
Connor Thompson is two year starter for the Wolfpack. His junior year he established himself as one of the premier rushers in the state, rushing for over 1,000 yards in a single season! Coach Hennelly says Thompson is
“A quiet leader and tries to lead by example” but did admit that Connor “Is vocal when he has to be”.
Connor will try to lead the very strong linebacker and backfield core this year. When Connor was asked if he wanted to play in college he responded by saying, “Yes, definitely, I am looking at Gettysburg, Washington and Lee, Catholic, and University of Rochester.”
Kevin Sears who also started as a sophomore, is a hard hitting safety and a speedy running back; a nice complement to Thompson in the back field. In his first game against Par Hills, Kevin recorded 3 touchdowns including 1 that was off a kick return! On the defensive side he had 1 interception as well. Coach Hennelly commented on Sears by saying, “Kevin is different then are Thompson and Hughes, he is a vocal leader and does a good job motivating the team. Kevin also takes a lot of responsibility for the secondary on defense.”
When Kevin was asked about his thoughts on what Coach Hennelly said about his “responsibility” for the secondary, he was humbled by saying, “ I’m just doing my job.”
Clearly Sear’s is one of the more versatile players West Morris has. Just like Thompson, Sears plays on both sides of the ball and he feels that his flexibility to play a lot of positions will help him play in college. When ask where he was looking to play he said, “I am going to send my film into UPenn and Rutgers and see what happens.”
The third captain in this trio is Alex Hughes. Hennelly can not explain the importance of having Hughes on the line this year. “We have a completely new line this year, so it’s important to have Hughes be the leader of this group.”
In the first game, Hughes seemed to be in complete control of the offensive and defensive line.
Along with Hughes, Sears, and Thompson, some of the other seniors, including Ray Law, Will Sullivan, Colin Sokolowski, and Thomas Stoll hope to lead the pack to another State title.
