When walking through the chaotic halls of our high school, there are several rules that our students have come to know and follow throughout their time at WMC. However, incoming freshmen may not be accustomed to these rules yet, so for this reason, we have created this section of the Paw called Hallway Etiquette.
- Walk on the right side of the hallway. Just like driving, it is assumed that you stay to the right of the hall and if you fail to do this, it can result in unwanted collisions between students.
- Look up from your phone. We understand that your time between classes may be the only opportunity to scroll through Instagram or text your friends back, but pay attention to the way that you are moving through the crowded hall! You may be surprised to find that you are walking at a ridiculously slow pace or you might even be on the wrong side of the hallway. Senior, Amanda Cray, advises, “Students have to walk with a purpose. It’s like navigating a highway- know where you’re going and don’t waste any time getting there!” As we all know, texting and driving is never a good combination, and neither is texting and walking to your classes!
- One of the biggest pet peeves for upperclassmen concerning students who are new to the school is their tendency to congregate in the middle of the hallway with their friends. If your friend’s locker is in the C-wing, at least try to make an effort to move over to the side of the hallway, rather than blocking everyone else. Intersections are the worst when it comes to this issue. Sam Heditsch, a senior at WMC, expresses her frustrations, saying, “They just stand there, and they don’t move, and create a bunch of traffic.” Don’t be those kids.
