It should not be a surprise to hear that Germany succeeded once more on the soccer field on the seventh of September against the Scottish football team. What is shocking, however, may be the fact that the game was only won 3-2. Beating teams like Brazil in the past 7-1, no one expected Scotland to be able to land one past Neur even once during the game. Despite the predictions, the Scotts were playing in Glasgow, and had to put on a show for their fans.
At the start of the game, Scotland came out fired up, aggressive, and unwilling to let the Germans dominate the game as they had done to so many opponents previously in the cup. Despite aggressive efforts, however, the first goal of the game came from Thomas Müller, who sunk a left footed shot from outside the box into the right corner after an assisted pass from Toni Kroos.
Minutes later, the Scotts responded. After 10 minutes of aggressive play and intense pressure, the Scotts forced Mat Hummel’s to score on his own goal after much confusion, surprising all by tying the game up 1-1.
Though more excited than anything for tying Germany, the idea of Scotland actually beating Germany was soon shot down by Thomas Muller once again. Thirty three minutes into the game, Thomas Muller dropped a nasty header that found its way into the back of the net. At the end of it all, the Germans were back in the lead 2-1.
Despite the setback, the Scottish team showed even more determination than ever. In the 42nd minute of the game, Emre Can helped ear a corner for the Scottish team. Being given such a precious opportunity for a goal, the Scotts were going to make sure they would not slip up. 38 seconds later, James McArthur of Scotland fired one from the center of the box into the top of the goal. Not only was this the first goal scored by a Scottish player himself, but this once more tied up the game.
At this point, most all were surprised. Not only had another team tied the German Soccer team, but the team doing so was Scotland. Sadly, despite the strong effort, the Germans went on to winning the game 3-2 in the 53rd minute. Despite further attempts to tie up the game, the Scotts were unable to comeback in the game. Even so, the people of Glasgow were not disappointed in the fact that their armature team almost beat the world champions. A great day in Glasgow indeed.
