In a week 3 showdown, the Pittsburgh Steelers matched up against the St.Louis Rams. With both teams sitting at 1-1, this was an important game for both sides in an attempt to put them ahead in their seasons.
What turned out to be a battle of defensive possessions, not one touchdown was scored by either teams the entire game. with a final score of 12-6, the Steelers picked up the win.. but it came with a hefty price.
Ben Roethlisberger, the all-star quarterback, and two-time superbowl winner, is out 4-6 weeks due to a sprained MCL and bruised bone both located in his left knee.
ESPN.com asked the quarterback how much pain he was and is in due to the injury,
“You guys know me, I can deal with a lot of pain — this is pretty painful,”
Clear that Big Ben is in significant pain, this may eliminate or hinder the process of a speedy recovery.
WMC Senior Bandon Colon commented, “The injury to Big Ben is obviously going to affect the entire team, especially his number one receiver Antonio Brown.”
Antonio Brown, the all-star receiver, as never caught a touchdown pass by anyone other than Roethlisberger in his career. In addition, for the past 34 games Antonio Brown has averaged 5 catches for at least 50 yards.
Roethlisberger’s injury puts the usually explosive steelers offense in danger as their schedule has them going into battle against some of the NFL’s most solid secondaries. On October 1st, the Steelers take on the winless, and now desperate Baltimore Ravens.
With Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb two of the top players in the secondary positions, they will really push Antonio Brown to see what he can do on his own without the help of Roethlisberger.
Ben Roethlisberger is expected to return between weeks seven and eight; but as for right now…Big Ben is down for the count.
