In a blowout Week 1 matchup, the New York Jets took the field against the Cleveland Browns. In a game that started out close, the Brown gameplan and team started to fall apart ending in a blowout, Josh McCown’s injury and the return of Johnny Manziel.
Early in the second quarter the Browns and Josh McCown were threatening to put seven on the board to pack on the lead against New York; in an effort to score Josh McCown took off running toward the goal line when he was hit by three defenders, Darrelle Revis, Domn Harrison and Antonio Cromartie.
This resulted in a fumble recovery by the Jets in their end zone and a concussed Browns Quarterback McCown.
After being taken off the field and to the locker room for evaluation, the next offensive possession the Browns were lead by last years starter, Johnny Manziel.
What looked like a promising start for Manziel, ended in a bitter loss as in the second half the Browns offense couldn’t get anything going and the game ended 31-10, New York Jets picking up the win.
WMC Sophomore Octavio Vega said, “I think if the Browns start Manziel they will get a lot better.”
According to ESPN.com, Mike Pettine said, “He just needs to be much more protective of the football, that cannot become his flaw.”
Regarding Manziel and his issues with fumbling, he lost the ball twice in the game vs the Jets.
Moving past the loss in week one, Manziel and the Browns prepared to take Marcus Mariota the new acclaimed superstar rookie and his Titans Week 2.
In a similar game as the previous week, it started out close but this time Manziel had the offensive answer and led the Brows to a 28-14 win putting them 1-1 on the season.
Manziel threw 8 completions on 15 attempts for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns, looking very comfortable in the pocket. His reads and his passes looked on the money this week, but with Josh McCown returning next week, the question becomes,
Who do they start, McCown or Manziel?
