December 15th. A day of hopes and dreams for many. A time of turmoil and anxiety. Excitement. Nervousness. Panic. Confidence.

All of these are the feelings that Seniors in high school across the country are emoting.
Most colleges’ Early Decision notification lies on this fateful day, so those first choice answers will be out soon. This is both exciting and nerve wracking for one very complex reason: to have an answer.

This answer can hold either opportunity or deceit: To have an answer is to stop waiting. To have an answer is to know whether or not you’re going.

This answer dictates your future. This answer tells you whether or not your next four years will be spent on your number one choice for college, or the ones proceeding.

Many students in our school are nervous, too.

Alexis O’Neil, grade 12, said, “I’m really anxious. I almost don’t want to know at this point.”

Similarly, Kristen Bridges, grade 12, felt, “terrible, because it’s so stressful!” when approached.

Some people handle their nerves well. Elizabeth Girardy, grade 12, said she feels, “good but it’s annoying to have to wait.”

We all wish we could be Girardy at this moment. As each day creeps closer and closer to the decision day announcement, people get more and more worried. Anxiety is high, and we check our e-mails and mailboxes way more than we should.

A word of advice: breathe! No need to stress, the right college will come along in shining armour and on a white horse to save you. You will go where you need to go, and it’s especially easier when you have a positive outlook on it. College is great, no matter where you go. So keep marking that calendar down to the day, keep biting your nails, and keep checking your mail. It will come, whether you’re ready or not. But, as long as you have a positive attitude, you’ll never be disappointed.
