Family, Food, and Giving Thanks

Family, Food, and Giving Thanks

Daelien Drake, Broadcast Director

In 1620 a small ship called the Mayflower left Plymouth, England. After 3 months the Mayflower crossed Massachusetts Bay where the pilgrims began building a village at Plymouth.

A Native American gave the Pilgrims a visit and showed kindness to them. He taught them survival skills such as how to harvest corn, catch fish, and avoid poisonous plants.

In November 1621, the pilgrims organized a celebratory feast to honor their first successful corn harvest. This was later going to be known as America’s

“First Thanksgiving” that lasted 3 days.

Thanksgiving is a day to take into account for what you have and praise your good fortune. Everyone celebrates this holiday different and that’s what makes it special. We all have our ways of showing how thankful we are for what we have.

Senior, Matt Steen says “we hate anything cranberry except cranberry juice we like that”. Thanksgiving is a feast to be celebrated with family and lots of food to show how thankful we are for our lives.

Senior Morgan Zindulka says “I go to my aunt’s house in Long Island to hang with family”.

Spending the holiday of thanks with the ones you love and care for is what makes Thanksgiving because without them what would you be?

Why do we eat turkey, stuffing, and potatoes on Thanksgiving? Every family has there own way of honoring Thanksgiving and that has shaped the way America is known to celebrate this holiday.

On the pilgrims menu they had lobster, seal and swans. What’s on your menu?

Remember to be thankful this Thanksgiving and show the ones you love you mean it.
