How Early is Too Early

Christmas in October- that’s crazy. Last month I was walking down the street, around mid-october, and noticed Christmas lights set up in front of someone’s house- now that’s just too early. Don’t get me wrong, everyone loves Christmas, I myself am a HUGE Christmas fan, but we still had Halloween around the corner.

Recently I’ve been asking students what their opinions are on, ‘How Early is Too Early’ for Christmas. I asked questions on this subject in a structural manner: I began with asking about Christmas music and items in stores.

Each person I asked had almost the same answer, the objective of all businesses are to create a profit, make money, and be successful. Stores need to start early because Christmas time is a crucial part of the year for businesses as everyone’s christmas shopping. Many businesses take advantage of this by putting their products on sale to compete with other businesses. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great examples of this.

Another question that I brought to the table dealt with Christmas cards. When do you send them? If you do at all, that is. Some people love Christmas cards, it’s a tradition and part of the holiday season, they say. But there’s also making one, paying for it, and sending it out that can be a hassle to some.

Senior Caitlyn Dorah said, “I don’t send them every year, but I love to receive them.”

She continued by saying that they’re so cute and make her smile because sometimes they’re so corny, but in a good way. In my opinion, it’s also a way to connect with people you haven’t talked to in a while.

Putting it away. Putting it away can be a sad time of the year, bringing a favorite holiday to an end. But when is it appropriate to put the decorations and Christmas cards away? Many students at West Morris Central said that they put it away sometime in January. I would agree with this, although I do try to keep them up as long as possible. However, February may be pushing it.
