A very rare pink diamond has been sold in Hong Kong, China for $553 million in Hong Kong currency. While this expensive diamond sold for $71.2 million in united states currency.

The Oppenheimer Blue, which had previously held the record for the most expensive polished diamond. It had sold at auction for $57.5 million at a Christie’s auction in Geneva in May of 2016.

It took nearly two years to cut the Pink Star from a rough diamond. It first appeared in public in 2003 and later became part of an exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
