Central Takes on Randolph in First Round of MCT

West Morris Central softball team entered the MCT as the sixth-seed and versed 11th-seed, Randolph High School, on their home field. Although both teams played a strong game, Randolph came out on top with a final score of 6-2.

Nicole Frank led the Wolfpack on the mound and finished the game with a total of four strikeouts with Rebekah Katz behind the plate.  Entering the bottom of the second inning Central was down by four. The first run scored when a throw to third, to try and pick off the runner, bounced off the glove of a Wolfpack fielder and rolled away. Randolph added the second run two batters later  on a low throw on a play at home plate. Wolfpack right fielder, Olivia Veno, makes a diving catch to end the rough inning, leaving Randolph with a 4-0 lead.

After the tough inning, Frank made the rest of the game tough for the Randolph offense, allowing just two runs for  the rest of the game. A solo home run by Kelly O’Neill, Randolph’s pitcher, in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the seventh were the two runs let in for the rest of the game.

The Wolfpacks’ third baseman, Gina Falzarano, was the only one on the team to hit the ball out of the infield within the first five innings which resulted in a double.

West Morris began to  threaten Randolph in the bottom of the sixth inning when Mara Bohegan and Nicole Iorio scored on a groundout to third base by Olivia Veno and Rebekah Katz’s double to deep right with two outs. Katz was left on second when the next batter hit a pop up to short-stop to end the inning.

The final inning went by quickly and left Randolph the winners, with 6-2 as the final score.
