Johnny Manziel drafted to the Cleveland Browns: After a long wait, Johnny Football was drafted in the 22nd pick

On Thursday night, Johnny Manziel and fans alike were filled with anxiety watching the NFL draft. The potential number one draft pick had a long three hour wait before finally being contacted by the Browns as the 22nd pick. The Browns had passed on Johnny two times before finally contacting him at 10:41pm to offer him a position. Johnny was extremely grateful and did not think it a bad thing that he was picked in the 22nd spot. He stated, ““I was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. For me, it blows my mind. It’s hard to sink in. It’s such an honor.”

The Browns made a wise decision, and in only four days after the draft Johnny Manziel had the top selling jersey in the NFL since April 1. There is no doubt that Manziel has all the fan base needed to help him succeed- now it is up to him to see how his college football experience will relay in the NFL. There were concerns about his running quarterback style translating over to the NFL which is perhaps why he was not picked earlier, but there is no doubt that he is still Jonny Football, and he will still be a star in his fans’ eyes no matter what.

On Monday, the owner of the Browns, Jimmy Haslam, stated that the Browns have told Johnny to act as a backup quarterback. Johnny has quickly brought fame and recognition to Cleveland, but they want him to come and work just as hard as anybody else. As of right now, Brian Hoyer is the starting quarterback, and Johnny will have to prove himself before he gets a starting position. Haslam stated, “This is a hardworking, blue-collar town. This isn’t Hollywood,’” Haslam said. “‘We want you to come in here, work hard and work as hard as anybody on the team.”
