There is a Historic flooding in the Balkans, a region in Europe.  The flooding that has followed has so far sent tens of thousands of people scrambling to higher ground, in order to survive.  Due to the vast flooding, concerns have sparked that hidden landmines, from the bosnian war, in the Balkans could surface in the large mudslides

and put rescuers’ lives at risk.

The vast number of landslides have so far worsened relief efforts and the situation, as determined by Red Cross. According to the reports from relief efforts and the Red Cross,in Serbia,  the severe flooding has caused the evacuation of at least 24,300 people.

Dragan Radovanovic,  the president of Serbian branch of the Red Cross said  “the number of people affected by flooding is actually much larger”. instead of leaving, many stayed in their houses or apartments. Some simply do not want to leave their homes, and prove themselves to be hard to convince to leave.

AS shown in the picture, the water in some of the flooded areas was chest high, and in other areas rescuers were forced to use boats as transportation.

Twelve bodies were recovered in Obrenovac. One of the 12 dead was determined to have died of natural causes instead of the flooding.

in the town of Obrenovac,  the authorities of estimated 90% of town flooded.

So far, at least 13 dead are reported in bosnia and herzegovina, but countries in the Balkans expect the toll is likely to go even higher as the crisis unfolds.
