Jordan Morgan- a basketball player from the University of Michigan received quite a surprise upon returning home from graduation- a personalized letter from President Obama. Morgan graduated as a fifth-year senior with his graduate degree in manufacturing engineering, and had caught Obama’s attention along the way. When Obama spoke at Michigan on April 2nd about increasing the minimum wage, he mentioned Morgan and applauded him for his achievements in the classroom while playing Division I basketball. In his speech he said, I want to congratulate Jordan for playing more games at Michigan than any other player in history [and] not only earning an undergraduate degree in engineering, [but] pursuing a graduate degree in engineering as well,” Obama said. “That’s the kind of student athlete we’re talking about.”

The recent Michigan Graduate tweeted out “A big thank you to @BarackObama for the congratulations that was sent to my house #Humbled #Inspired” along with a picture of the letter.

Morgan was a key player for the University of Michigan for the past 2 years, helping his team advance to the finals in 2013. He finished his college basketball career averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds.
