That’s a Wrap on the 2023 Unified Basketball Season!
February was an extremely busy month for the WMC Unified basketball team, having participated in five regular season games and two tournaments. The first home game of the month took place on February 1, 2023 against North Hunterdon. Unified then played an invigorating away game at Sparta High School and another home game the following week. Both the team’s amazing communication on the court and ice cream after the Sparta game made these victories extra sweet!
On February 11, 2023, WMC Unified brought home a championship win at the NJSIAA State Tournament. An incredible team effort was put forward by all participating athletes and partners, allowing the team to arise victorious at the end of the day. Congratulations on being named Group B State Champions, Unified!
Unified basketball then hosted their own Round Robin tournament on February 16, 2023. WMC, Mendham, Hackettstown, and Mount Olive all came together to play a series of high-spirited games, and even enjoy dancing and a pizza party to end off the day.
This past week, Unified played in their final three games of the season. The week-long game festivities commenced on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, with a home game against Hackettstown. This was then followed by an away game against Voorhees on Wednesday, and another home game against Mendham and Black River on Thursday. The team was undefeated in each of the games, ending the season with a 12-1 regular season record.
In addition to astounding game successes, Unified has also named four new Wolves of the Week throughout the month of February. The Wolf of the Week is a weekly award that is given to the Unified team member that exemplifies leadership, sportsmanship, and the Unified message of inclusion.
Isabelle Noonan was Unified’s first Wolf of the Week for February. Junior Luke Flagg was presented with the award for the week of February 10th, and followed by senior Patrick Jacobsen for the week of February 17th. Paloma Albora was the final recipient of this award for the month of February.
