Will Mr. Central Return To Stage This Year?
For the past three years, Mr. Central, a popular WMC tradition, has either been canceled or held in an alternative format. Three years ago, it was canceled due to COVID. Two years ago, it was a part of the senior sunrise ceremony and the format was completely different. Last year it was canceled once again, but that time due to lack of participation. This year, the senior class council has been working tirelessly to bring it back.
In the past, Mr. Central was run similar to a talent show and was open to males in the senior class. Students who chose to participate competed against one another in a variety of contests judged by WMC faculty. While the format is similar this year, there are some changes. Currently, it is being rumored that if the event occurs, administration and student council intend to change the name from Mr. Central to ICentral. It will now be open to anyone in the senior class, not just males. Additionally, some of the competitions were rumored to change, and the skit portion could be eliminated.
On Wednesday March 1st, a meeting was held to gauge interest for the event. Based on the application pool, administration is still determining if they will be able to hold the event this year at all. Senior, John Rolli, shared, “In my four years here at WMC, we have never watched a true Mr. Central, I’m really hoping it will be able to happen this year because it’s a great tradition.”
Before the event is canceled altogether, it’s not too late to reach out to members of the student council, specifically senior class secretary, Julia Esposito ([email protected]), to share interest in participating.
