West Morris Central Theater is preparing yet another spectacular spring musical. This year, they will be performing “Chicago: Teen Edition” which is a musical written by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb based on a previous play by Maurine Dallas Watkins; the script adaptation is by David Thompson.
Dr. Agostin, the director of the Central Theater Program, is one of the few people in charge of the production of this musical. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education, a Master of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Connecticut, and a Doctor of Letters Degree from Drew University. She and many other faculty members of WMCHS also try to make it their responsibility to assist in the making of these productions.
Abigail Theesfeld, a freshman and member of the ensemble, was able to give an introduction to the musical and some insider information about rehearsals. “The show is about a woman named Roxie who lives in the city of Chicago and whose dream is to become a famous star. After she murders her lover and is put in jail, she is finally able to find a chance to fulfill her dreams and aspirations of becoming a well-known star and celebrity with the help of another inmate named Velma,” stated Theesfeld. She then proceeded to say how productive and fun the rehearsals are with the other cast members.
The main characters of this musical are Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, played by Olivia Budd and Sophia Passaro. Billy Flynn, one of Chicago’s most effective criminal defense lawyers, is played by Maximiliano Ruiter Lopez. Mama Morton, the tough, sassy, corrupt warden of the Cook County Jail is played by Gizelle Canales. Mary Sunshine, the gullible and optimistic reporter of Chicago is played by Lexi Bishop, and lastly, Amos Hart, the loyal and supportive husband of Roxie is played by Logan McFadden.
There will be four performances. The first performance will be on Thursday, March 14th at 7:00 PM, and the second on Friday, March 15th at 7:00 PM as well. The last two performances will be on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets to these shows will be available on the West Morris Central website, and they will also be available for purchase at the door.
