In the past, many have said that Presidential debates are not important, but this was disproved by the last debate. After President Biden’s poor performance in the last debate with former President Trump he was pressured by his own party to step aside. President Biden’s stepping aside made way for the Democratic party to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as their nominee.
In addition to likely being more important than many may realize, there are also a number of interesting facts regarding this specific debate.
This will be the first time Trump and Harris ever meet in person. This will be Trump’s seventh televised Presidential debate, which is the most of any person in United States history.
The debate will take place on September 10th at 9:00 P.M. at The Constitution Center, in Philadelphia, moderated by ABC News. There will be no audience at the debate, which will likely prove challenging to both candidates, as both like to feed off of the audience. When a candidate is not in their speaking time, their microphone will be muted.
Trump won the virtual coin toss, allowing him to select to give the last closing statement, and Harris chose to stand at the podium on the right side of the stage.
Harris is believed to have spent a week preparing for the debate doing mock debates and getting used to the lights, stage etc. Conversely, Trump has been said to have been having small policy meetings to prepare his answers to pointed questions.
While the debate may or may not influence any voting decisions, it will be a historic debate with at least a few firsts. It will be an interesting watch and will likely prove to be very important to the Presidential election, setting the stage for many of the topics which will be the storylines of the coming months leading up to the election.
