Throughout football season, many people are focused on the football players. However, another star of the night is the marching band. The marching band has a way of giving everyone the dancing fever and work from August-November to make sure their halftime performance is perfect. Two students that give their all to the marching band are the drum majors.
The drum majors for the 2024 season are Sarah Tupaczewski and Madison Galluzzo. The two are both very excited to have this position. Galluzo states she’s “really proud to have the position because I wanted to do it since freshman year.” Tupaczewsk expresses that “it’s been super cool. I’m having a lot of fun being able to lead the band.”
According to Tupaczewski, “the drum major pretty much conducts the show and stays in tune” as well as “in charge of leading rehearsal when Mr. Galatka is doing other things.” The audition process was quite different for the two of them. Sarah states she “had to do an interview, conducting, and I think we led a basics block just to demonstrate leadership skills” while Galluzzo, “ sent in a video of me conducting, and that was it” because she had a prior commitment.
The two are both seniors at WMC and have been marching since freshman year. Tupaczewski’s favorite parts of marching band have been making great friends. She states “I’ve met some of my closest friends through marching band.” Galluzzo has had similar favorites. She states, “I’ve had the most fun getting better at my instruments and meeting new people”.
While the role of drum major has been exciting, Tupaczewski states “ It’s definitely a lot of pressure to be leading the entire band and to be responsible for a lot of different parts of the marching band.” The girls have to be in charge of conducting and organizing the band on the stands as well as the halftime performance. Galluzzo states “sometimes it’s difficult to stay on top of everything that we are supposed to do to keep the band running in an organized manner.”
All in all these girls have worked super hard to earn this position and have proved they earned it each day and They are both “Proud of how the marching band’s doing this year, looking forward to a great season”!
