Jade Diaz is a senior at West Morris Central, and he has been spending his fall leading the soccer team to success. His dedication and strong work ethic both on and off the field have earned him a nomination from his coach and the WMC faculty for this year’s first male Athlete of the Month!
Jade has positively impacted the team’s record this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists, contributing to WMC’s record of 5-8-1. He plays both midfield and forward positions. When reflecting on the best advice he has received from a coach, Jade shares, “Just to keep my head up, and have… a short-term memory after defeats… and move on.” The boys’ soccer team at West Morris is under the guidance of Coach Bob Hannington.
Jade also offers insight into the team dynamics.“We’ve definitely gone at each other a lot throughout the season, but at the same time, we have a… pretty good bond with each other” said Jade. In addition to representing West Morris, Jade also plays for STA soccer club in Randolph, NJ.
When discussing his passion for soccer, Jade explains that no one part of soccer is his favorite; he just loves the sport as a whole. He explains how playing brings him happiness and being with his friends playing a sport he loves is something he treasures. “Although soccer can sometimes be frustrating, being with my friends and just kicking the ball around is as good as it can get.”
Moreover, Jade acknowledges the influence of his coaches by thanking them for always being there for him. Jade explains that whenever he needs them, they will be there because they care about his overall well being on and off the field.
Academically, Jade would advise his freshman self to “Keep working as hard as you can to be the best self you can be.”
