The boys varsity soccer team celebrated their senior night on September 25th, highlighting all the graduating players on the team. At this game the bleachers were filled with students and fans cheering on the team. It was very special to all the players. “It’s definitely scoring and then the crowd cheering. It’s just different from the rest of the games,” as stated by Lennon Collis, a forward and midfielder on the team. The support that the boys received was very special to them.
The soccer team played a challenging opponent but still managed to win 4-0 with Lennon Collis, JP Huff, Sebastian Chalemin, and Christian Turcios scoring goals. Senior night, like any other game, is not a guaranteed win but this year they managed to be victorious.
Being a senior on the team comes with a lot of responsibility. Collis says, “I used to have upperclassmen and people above you that you kind of look up to and the captains are the people in charge. It’s like, now I’m the one in charge of them.” Now the seniors take the responsibility of being the leaders of the team. According to captain, Matthew Montgomery, “My favorite thing about being a part of the team is probably just the friendships and… close connections with people. I’ve gotten closer with everyone throughout all four years.” The relationships the boys all have with each other is many of the seniors’ favorite part about being on the team.
A night like this is extra special to the players that are not continuing to play as they go off to college. Montgomery says that “it’s… a little sad, because it’s our last year with everything and, like, everything counts now we don’t have another year.” Now that they are seniors, they want to make the most of the season.
