The Friday Night Lights shone on the Class of 2025’s cheerleaders, marching band, and football players on October 18th for their senior night. Senior night is when the seniors are recognized for their dedication to a specific sport or activity. That night, 51 seniors were honored including 14 football players, 17 marching band members, and 20 cheerleaders.
Senior night is a very simple format. First, a senior is introduced, then they are escorted down the football field by family as Mr. Jacobsen reads their favorite memory and future plans. Finally, the senior takes a picture with the coach or conductor.
The cheerleaders are given an underclassmen or “little” that holds their poster. Many of the cheerleaders were very excited for senior night. Some cheerleaders, like senior Olivia Budd, have been looking forward to this since freshman year. Budd states “It’s really fun to finally have someone hold my poster and to walk down the aisle.” Budd also explains that senior night “feels very surreal since it’s finally our turn [for senior night].”
Along with the cheerleaders, the marching band had many seniors who were excited for the night. Senior IO Antonov states they were “really excited but also very sad because of all the nostalgia”. Antonov is a baritone horn player and has been marching for four years. Their highlight of the season is the marching band show, Ghost Ship.
Though the cheerleaders and marching band aced their performances, the football game was definitely the main event. The night was made when the football players won 49-0. The football seniors had many highlights of the game like Senior Danny Brzozowski. Brzozowski has been playing since freshman year and enjoyed “walking out in front of the home crowd and taking a picture with Coach Hennelly.”
Overall the night was a hit and WMC will miss all the seniors who were honored that night.
