This December people are decorating their houses and getting excited for the holidays, but they are also excited for the most important matter in December: their top songs.
On December 4, the wait for top artists and songs was over.
Spotify
Eden Debiasse and Maddie Finer are two, out of 626 million Spotify users that found out what their Spotify Wrap was.
Finer, a Senior at West Morris Central, says that her top song was “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish. Her top artist of the year was Laufey. Finer noted she “felt surprised but not surprised at the same time.” That could be because her 4th top song was “From the Start” by Laufey. She was happy with Laufey being her top artist. When she found out her Spotify wrapped she told six people and “put it on my story.”
DeBiasse, a sophomore, shows that their top Artist is Sleep Token. They report that the Spotify wrapped was “very accurate” but they felt unsure about Sleep Token being their top artist of the year. Debiasse says that they “definitely listened to other artists more than Sleep Token” so it’s another “yes and no” situation.
But that’s not all, thousands of students at WMC were on the Spotify-wrapped bandwagon.
Here are a few people below who also checked on their Spotify wrapped:
Apple Music
Apple Music also came out with its own “listened to” updates, called “Replay 2024.” This has the same features as spotify wrapped. Where it shows you your most played songs and artists. With one twist, Apple music has made it so users can see the top songs of the year.
Winston Sisa, a senior. Winston said he was “surprised” when looking at his “total minutes listened to, ” but quickly attributed the unexpected numbers to his switch from Spotify to Apple Music during the year. He explains he“just thought it would be more efficient for me because I paid for Spotify and Apple Music was free so I took it.” When it came to his top artist of the year being Drake, Winston was notably unsurprised. “He actually is my favorite artist,” Winston confirmed, demonstrating consistency between his personal music preferences and his streaming statistics.
Youtube Music
Youtube music is also participating in this music update train. But they are doing it a little differently. They have added “mashable highlights” where users can see an end of the year summary of their listening habits.
John Ciarafella, a senior, says that he is “pretty happy” seeing that Ozzy Osbourne was his top artist of the year. Seeing as Cirafella says Osbourne is “the main guy I listens to.” Tt makes sense. After receiving the news, he told five of his friends. John Ciarafella, a senior, says that he is “pretty happy” seeing that Ozzy Osbourne was his top artist of the year. Knowing he is “the main guy [Ciarafella] listens to” it makes sense. Ciarafella’s love for Ozzy Osbourne’s music has been a staple of his daily routine. He often finds himself listening to Osbourne’s classic hits like “Bark at the Moon” and “Mr. Crowley” while studying or working out. With his top artist revealed, Ciarafella is looking forward to exploring more of Osbourne’s discography.
Addy Bray, a senior and another eager Youtube music listener explains that she “was shocked” about how few minutes she’s been listening to music, “I thought it would be more than it was.” When her Youtube update came she told her friends and boyfriend about it.
Amazon Music
Amazon doesn’t just ship out our favorite goodies, it also has music. Amazon music is taking part in this yearly music review.
Danielle Costantino, a sophomore, states “I thought it’d be more to be honest, I’m always listening to music,” when asked her reaction to how long she’d been listening to music. The second she got her yearly music review she said she “sent it to my bestfriend and my boyfriend, but I also posted it on my Instagram story.” She was very happy with her top artists. She figured that Avenged Sevenfold “would be one, and [she] expected Van Halen and Montley Crue too.”
Robbie Farino, a senior and avid Taylor Swift fan, tells that they weren’t “surprised that Taylor was my #1 I listen to her all the time.” When Farino found out about their Amazon Music update, they posted it to their private story “so whoever’s on that saw it.” Farino is very content with their top 5 artists of the year, saying that Farino “plays their music all the time.”
