The fall drama, A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas, occurred November 21st-23rd and was a great success. The students in the cast and crew have put in so much work to perfect the show and each member is recognized for how hard they work. One Student who takes the audience’s breath away with each role is Maximiliano Ruiter-Lopez.
Ruiter-Lopez recently played the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. To prepare for this, he practiced walking around with a cane and did background research on the Victorian time period to really understand the role. “Understanding the motivations and emotions behind a character’s actions allows me to make intentional, authentic choices.” Ruiter-Lopez said. “Researching the historical and cultural context of the play also helps me align my portrayal with the story’s tone and era.”
Along with Scrooge, Ruiter-Lopez has had many memorable roles. In previous years he has played Billy Flynn in Chicago, Sir Harry in Once Upon a Mattress and many other great roles. The roles he plays in the spring musicals require a little more than just strong acting. Those roles require strong vocals as well. Ruiter-Lopez has immense levels of vocal talent. He has been recognized as recipient of the high school All-State singer award for classical voice. “Since 2020, My passion for vocal performance has been nurtured by my teacher, opera singer Karen Notare” stated Ruiter-Lopez.
Ruiter-Lopez has been performing since 5th grade. He first started his acting career with the Centenary Young Performers Workshop (YPW). He also performs professionally at The Strand in Hackettstown. Ruiter-Lopez states that his inspiration for performing comes from, “the opportunity to tell stories that resonate with audiences, whether on stage or through song, and to grow alongside such a talented and supportive artistic community.”
