On January 27th and 29th West Morris Central welcomed some local schools into the walls of the auditorium for the annual District Band and Choir Concert.
The choir members spent Monday, January 27th practicing and putting in the work so that they could give the parents a show to remember. West Morris Central, West Morris Mendham, Black River Middle School, Long Valley Middle School, and two other schools pulled together their voices and throughout the night they performed a variety of songs.

A part of this event that makes it so memorable for those taking part in it is being able to work together, meet new people, and do what they love. Freshman choir member Michaela Castro has been coming to the WMC for this event since seventh grade and this was her favorite year by far. In previous years she was the one looking up to who she is today but now it was her turn to be a role model. “Being a role model for the middle schoolers was a lot more fun than having to look up to the high schoolers,” said Castro.
Something else that made this experience more enjoyable for Castro was getting to connect with her friends from Long Valley Middle School. “My favorite part of the concert was interacting with the middle schoolers because I have many friends in the middle school,” said Castro.
With the fantastic performance that the choir put on the band had a lot to live up to, and they didn’t fail to do so.

On January 29th it was the band’s turn to welcome Long Valley Middle School for another full day of rehearsing. Throughout the day they practiced and then later performed a compilation of popular songs from Aladdin with the middle school, and West Morris Central individually performed “Disney Around the Band Room” which was a compilation of popular Disney songs.
Freshman Bella Cryan previously experienced this event as a middle schooler but enjoyed it a lot more now that she’s a high schooler.” I liked being able to see the difference between the high schoolers. How the high schoolers work and how the middle schoolers work… For some of them, it’s their first time in the high school. So being able to do something as simple as showing them to the bathroom is cool for them,” said Cryan.
The common thread between the concert for both the band and the choir was the environment that taking part in these programs creates. Everyone had a blast, practiced their hardest, and overall enjoyed this experience.
With one concert over another one is in store. The Paw would like to wish all the band and choir members a great trip to Nashville that’s coming up in the next couple of weeks.
