WMC Wrestling ~ Mark Montuore Wins Athlete of the Month

Senior Mark Montuore has been selected as January’s Athlete of the Month! This recognition is well-deserved, reflecting his outstanding efforts in this year’s winter wrestling season, especially marked by his remarkable achievement of reaching 100 career wins.

Montuore’s journey in wrestling stretches over 11 years, including a dedicated four years in high school. His love for the sport is clear when he shared, “My favorite memory with WMC wrestling was being down in Atlantic City.” This experience highlighted the passion he has for wrestling and the bonds he has formed with his teammates.

The milestone of 100 career wins was a significant accomplishment for Montuore. He described it as his personal biggest achievement in wrestling. Montuore also finds motivation in the team’s pre-match warm-up, saying it’s his favorite tradition that helps him gear up for matches. This ritual not only prepares him physically but also mentally, fostering a sense of unity among the wrestlers.

Throughout his high school career, Montuore has been inspired by many role models, but one stands out to him. He stated, “One of my biggest role models is Michael Campanaro, who has helped me throughout my high school career.”

Montuore also reveals that weight loss has been his greatest hurdle in wrestling. He explained, “It’s very hard [to lose weight] and teaches you a high level of discipline and dedication.” This struggle has instilled a strong sense of discipline in him. If he could give advice to his freshman self, Montuore would say, “Be more disciplined with cutting weight, because it has helped me a lot [senior year].” This commitment to discipline has been crucial in his successful wrestling career.

Looking ahead, Montuore has decided not to pursue wrestling in college, meaning this season will be his last. Congratulations to him on this incredible accomplishment, and best of luck in the future!
