The 31st annual SAG awards occurred on February 23. The SAG awards are the Screen Actors Guild Awards and they are meant to honor achievements of actors on television. The ceremony took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and aired live on Netflix.
The pre-show
Before the event started, there was a red carpet for all the actors who attended. Many of the nominees and presenters for awards were talked to for very interesting interviews including Pamela Anderson who spoke about her acting career and how she feels like she’s “just beginning [her] career.” There was also a “style cam” being shown of actors’ outfits for the night such as Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, and Selena Gomez.
The host
Kristen Bell returns as the host for the SAG awards this year. Bell is an actress, singer, and producer. She is known for her roles in “Frozen”, “The Good Place”, and “Veronica Mars”. Bell said the night was “to honor the actor’s journey” then started singing “Do You Want To Be An Actor?” to the tune of “Do You Want To Build a Snowman?” while showing footage of actors in their earliest roles. Bell made lots of jokes regarding her past roles and co-stars. She also acknowledged the firefighters of Los Angeles for their bravery during the wildfires. Bell was a great host to kick off this ceremony.
Why is it important?
The SAG awards are so important because the actors nominate each other for the awards. It gives actors a chance to recognize the accomplishments of their peers. Actors are honored for their outstanding performances in movies and shows and they even acknowledge the work of ensembles as well. These awards are also known to be the predictions for determining who might get an Oscar.
