Saturday Night Live recently aired its 50th anniversary special and it couldn’t have been better. The run time was three hours but each hour was jam packed with entertainment. From SNL alum performing in classic skits to Adam Sandler’s tribute song, this special was one for the books.
Since 1975, Saturday night on NBC has had this classic comedy show filled with skits and songs run around 11:30 pm. The show consists of a celebrity guest host who performs in the skits, a musical guest who performs twice, and the weekend update which highlights hilarious takes on the crazy events of the week.
Before the anniversary show started, many celebrities who have either been in the cast of the show or have been a guest host all strutted down the red carpet beforehand. Many celebrities were decked out in beautiful gowns and suits including Adam Sandler who is known for rocking more casual looks, even to formal events. Senior Chloe Lippay had a personal favorite look from that night. “I loved Sabrina’s dress,” she states, “It was so sparkly and she looked gorgeous.”

Throughout the three hour special, actors performed many skits, including some classic ones that could only be done by the cast members who originated them. This included Kristen Wiig as Doonese, Molly Shannon as Sally O’Malley, and so much more. Some segments were inspired by what old cast members were famous for, such as Andy Samberg who did a rap about working on SNL inspired by his old comedy trio, The Lonely Island.
WMC Junior Nicolette Vasquez personally loved the Domingo sketch. “I thought it was hilarious to see not only the original Domingo character, but also Pedro Pascal, and bad bunny playing similar characters as well.” she states. “It was unexpected yet so worth it.”
While the night was filled with so many great surprises, Senior Juliana Davidman wished that they added a collab with her favorite comedy duo, Key and Peele. Similar to SNL, Key and Peele is a comedy show revolving around two comedians, Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele. Davidman believes, “it would’ve been a cool thing to see considering there were so many surprise guests.”
Overall the night was a success! It’s so great to see so many old and new faces making Saturday night a little better for people everywhere!
