Trevor Siemian and the Denver Broncos take down the Panthers on opening night
The lights were bright for the Denver Broncos starting quarterback Trevor Siemian as he made his first NFL start against the NFC champion Carolina Panthers.Not only was it his first start but he was taking the place of super bowl champion quarterback Peyton Manning. As fans got ready for the game to begin John Elway and Peyton Manning walk onto the field with their Super Bowl trophies in hand and getting the crowd pumped for what they expected to be another winning season.
As the game begins the broncos and Trevor Siemian take the field for the first drive of the game. Simian isa able to take the Broncos down into Carolina territory but as he hands the ball off to rookie running back Devontae Booker, Booker fumbles the ball and turns it over to Carolina. Of the turnover Cam leads his team into the redzone and hits Kelvin Benjamin in the endzone for a touchdown to take the lead. A drive later Siemian hand the ball off to his fullback Andy Janovich on third down for a 28 yard score to tie the game at 7 a piece. On the next drive Cam takes a direct snap on Denver’s 2 yard line and takes a leaping dive into the endzone to put Carolina up 17-7 at the half.
Later in the second half the Broncos start driving into Carolina territory when Trevor Siemian throws a floater toward Emmanuel Sanders which gets picked off by Bene’ Benwikere. The Broncos defense comes right back on a third and one with a sack on Cam Newton by veteran defensive end Demarcus Ware. On the Broncos next drive Trevor Siemian throws a screen too CJ Anderson who runs untouched into the endzone for a score which cuts the gap to 3.
The Broncos defense comes right back the next drive with an interception by Chris Harris of a deflection. On third and one Siemian takes the ball in his own hands and runs for the first down. Later on the drive the Siemian hand the ball off to CJ Anderson for the score to take the lead 21-17. As the Panthers get the ball back they have to settle for a field goal on their next drive to cut the lead too 21-20. The Panthers get the ball back after the field goal but are unable to move down the field due to sacks from Demarcus Ware and Von Miller. With eight seconds left the Panthers put the ball into their kicker Graham Gano’s hands. As the ball is kicked it looks like it has the distance but ends up hooking wide left. As the clock shows two seconds left Trevor Siemian and the Broncos take a knee to take the game and get Trevor Siemian his first win of his career with a 21-20 Broncos victory.
