Hitting the Right Note: Acapella Groups at WMC

As the school year continues, the acapella groups of WMC have begun their tryouts for the 2017-2018 school year.

There are three, the Loreleis, who are all female, the Noteworthys, who are all male, and the Howlers, who are co-ed.

Teesha Kubik, a senior at WMC, is currently a member of  Howlers and a judge for the tryouts for the acapella groups starting today, tomorrow, and Wednesday.

“Ideally, we’re looking for 8-12 new members. The three big things we look for are being able to hold a pitch, hold your own melody, and blend well together,”.

Although it is largely based on a person’s ability to sing, it also has to do with how they work within the group, Teesha says. The Howlers, as well as the Loreleis and Noteworthys, are looking for people with personality, and a specific way of portraying themselves.

“It is incredibly fun, and a very tightknit group because of the small size,”.

As of right now, there are 4 seniors, including Zach Naughright, Anna Gardner, and Abby Pugh. As the tryouts come to a close by the end of the week, they are hoping to increase that number.

Overall, the acapella groups at WMC welcome a new type of hobby, as well as a close group of friends for any student. Although they are small, that’s what makes them great, Teesha says, as well as impactful.
