Student-Athlete Spotlight – Stefano Montella
Our Wolfpack football team has started their season very successfully as we expected. This success has come from all areas of the team and contributions from each player, one in particular has stood out over these past few weeks; Junior T/DT Stefano Montella.
Montella has statistics that speak for themselves. He leads the team in rushing and tackles with 268 yards and 70 total tackles. He has four tackles for loss and one sack so far. On the season he has 64 receiving yards averaging 7.1 yards per carry.
Montella says that he “first started playing football in preschool… There wasn’t a team so I had to play two grades up with my older brother.” Montella started playing because of family ties, “My father played when he was younger in high school and in college and my brother also started just flag” Montella stated.
Montella’s favorite part about playing football here at WMC is “the coaching staff and the football team’s rich traditions.”He loves the bond that he has been able to form with the staff over the past three years.
Montella believes that his biggest strength as a player that he brings to the team is “vision on the field on both offense and defense.” He feels that his greatest accomplishment thus far is “contributing to my team and earning a near perfect record going 7-1 and winning the conference championship last year. ”
“I do have plans to continue my career at the next level” Montella stated. “And the goal is to go Division 1.”
You can watch Stefano Montalla and the rest of the WMC football team this Friday night at home against Randolph, hoping to improve their record to 4-1.
