Fall Sports Recap
FOOTBALL
WMC football brought back a State championship for the first time since 2012 after beating West Essex. Through the regular season they were 6-3 which set them up to be the first seed in the state tournament. The boys then beat Summit and Old Tappan to secure their championship spot where they shut out West Essex 21-0. Their season is not done yet though, the football team plays Cranford on 11/26 for the North Jersey Group 3 title at Metlife stadium.
FIELD HOCKEY
After starting their season off with a 2-4 record, not many people believed that the field hockey team would live up to the successes of the teams before them. The girls avenged losses by taking down teams they had lost to earlier in the season, which set them up to be in the Morris county semifinal against Chatham. Their performance in the county tournament put them as the third seed in the North Group 2 Section 2 tournament. They upset second seed Lakeland in the sectional semifinal to face West Essex in the final but lost 8-0.
GIRLS SOCCER
The girls soccer team came off of one of their most successful seasons in recent history. They ended with a regular season record of 8-1-2. Their hardwork and determination led them all the way to the Morris County final against Chatham. After being named the number one seed in North Jersey Section 2 Group 3, they rolled through the tournament beating North Plainfield, Summit and North Hunterdon to get them to the final. The girls yet again played Chatham for a title but this time the Wolfpack came out on top with a score of 2-1 to win the Sectional Championship. The girls season was cut short after losing to Wayne Valley in the Group 2 semifinal.
BOYS SOCCER
The WMC boys soccer team ended their season with a record of 5-12-1. They secured a key win over Whippany Park to continue on to the Morris County tournament where they lost to Mount Olive in the second round. The boys still had a chance in the state tournament but lost in the first round to Summit.
VOLLEYBALL
The volleyball team is one of the three WMC fall sports teams that brought back a sectional championship to Chester this season. After a less than promising start, 5-3 after the first month of playing the girls were able to overcome and secure big wins when they mattered the most. The Wolfpack made it all the way to the Morris county tournament semifinal and the Group 2 semifinal after winning the Sectional title. After being awarded the fourth seed in the North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 tournament they received a first round bye and opened up by beating West Essex 2-0 at home. In the semifinal the girls faced off against Passaic Valley and secured another win. The girls were then set to play Montville for the Sectional final which they won 2-0. However, they lost to Old Tappan 2-0 in the Group 2 semifinal.
GIRLS TENNIS
The girls tennis team went undefeated in their conference this season and ended with an overall record of 13-2. Their success gave them a bye to the quarterfinals of the North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 tournament where they beat Parsippany Hills 4-1. The girls then played in the semi final against Leonia but lost. The girls have gone from having records of 4-8 and 3-8 over the past two years to now going undefeated.
CROSS COUNTRY
The cross country team had a successful season. In the Morris county championship Brandon Chen finished second overall with a time of 16:02.23. In the North 2 Group 3 race Chen brought back a championship to WMC after finishing with a time of 15:42.13. He was then invited to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions where he placed 11th out of 180. For the girls Shannon Carratura finished 15 overall in the North 2 Group 3 championship and in the Morris County championship she finished 12 overall.
Congratulations to all of our fall athletes and teams on their successful seasons!
