Spotify Wrapped is Here!
December 1st was the day we had all been waiting for—the day Spotify Wrapped would drop. Our taste in music for that year would be summed up in several interesting ways, from our top artists and songs to our so-called “audio auras.” Here’s a walkthrough of Spotify Wrapped for anyone who missed the hype! I’ll be using my own Spotify Wrapped as an example.
Your Movie Soundtrack
Have you ever wondered what the soundtrack to your life would be like? Well, Spotify’s got your answer. We don’t know how exactly they chose the songs for each category, but it’s interesting to see nonetheless! Though I don’t think “Frankly, Mr. Shankly” is a very danceable tune…
Minutes Listened
This one is pretty self-explanatory. I spend any second I can listening to music, so this wasn’t surprising.
Top Songs
This is where your taste starts to truly shine. First, you get your top song and how many times it was played. (Fun fact: I accidentally left this song on repeat for 8 hours. Yikes!)
Then, you get a list of your top 5 songs. Spotify then gives you a playlist of your top 100 songs from the year.
Your Audio Aura
This one was where everyone started getting embarrassed, including myself. Spotify gave each person an analysis of their musical moods, ranging from “bold” to “wistful.” Mine, as shown, were “angst” and “yearning.” You can probably tell how my year has been so far by that.
Top Genres
Again, this one is self-explanatory. The formatting is kind of harsh, isn’t it?
Two Truths and a Lie
Here’s a fun little game Spotify gives you to play. You have to guess which of the three facts about your listening habits Spotify has given you isn’t true. Mine was pretty easy.
Top Artists
Here’s the one we’ve all been waiting for: our top artists! Spotify tells you how many minutes you’ve spent listening to your top artist and what percentile of their listeners you fall into. I listened to a LOT of Car Seat Headrest this year, for example. Top 0.05% is pretty wild for me. Then, you get your top 5 artists.
That’s a Wrap!
Lastly, Spotify gives you a summary of your Wrapped that you can share with all your friends. You’ve probably seen screenshots like this one all over your Instagram feed, with people complaining about how embarrassing theirs are or bragging about their top-tier musical taste. Either way, Spotify Wrapped has given us all a fun and interesting experience, where we learn more about our listening habits and thus ourselves.
