As the month of September finishes off, the West Morris Central Health and Wellness Team recaps on some important events that took place in September, such as National Suicide Prevention Month and Hispanic Heritage Month. For National Suicide Prevention Month, Mrs. Cartier had a booth in which she offered resources with the number for the Caring Contact Hotline, 988. For Hispanic Heritage Month the library encouraged students to stop by and check out a book to learn about Hispanic Heritage.
With these events ending, the month of October has even more in store. October is LGBTQ+ History Month and Hindu Heritage Month. Among these October has a week dedicated to respect, National Stop Bullying Day, World Mental Health Day, School Violence Awareness Week, Red Ribbon Week, and Unity Day. So much of the activities taking place this month involve supporting each other and being aware of others and yourselves.
If you ever need a moment to just check in with yourself, you can challenge yourself with this week’s challenge: just pause. Take a moment to yourself. Reflect on your feelings, and look for the positive parts in your day.
As suggested by the Wellness Team, just focus on your breathing, your heart beat, keep yourself steady, and just close your eyes.
This month is about looking after yourself ,and if you need any resources you can try the Power of a Pause, which includes the steps listed above, or reach out to Mrs. Ellsworth or Mrs.Cartier.
