New Technology Update for WMC

A new technology update has been brought to the network system of the West Morris

High School. This event is the change of the School Network. Currently, the old system of

Novell has been changed to the network system of Microsoft 7.

The network of Microsoft 7 now includes an easier compatibility and printing for the

computers, getting the ink to stick from the printers, and there were not as many challenges, as

the computers are Microsoft 7, being changed from Microsoft XP.

The three choices when it changed were Microsoft 7, Novell, which it was already on,

and Mac. Microsoft 7 was chosen to be the replacement for Novell. The system of Novell was

changed, according to gathered reports, because of the challenges it had presented during its

time of use. Novell had more issues than Microsoft 7, and had been harder to deal with and fix.

According to Mr. Carr, the head of the technology of the school, the system of Novell was “a

dying operating system,” and that it was” already on its way out” when it was changed.

So far, since the change, the only reports of complaints against the new system have

been from individual students and teachers. The reports summarized that a few of the users

were not familiar with the new interface of the desktop, and one teacher, Mrs. Mongey, from

Classroom F122 of Period 5, stated that she and students were“ still adjusting to the changes,

still learning about the new features” but she was “still hopeful this was a positive change”.

When asked if there were any more tasks that remained for the technology of the

school, he replied that the last task he had was to “get the COWs up and running again”. Each

of the Departments had their own COWs, and it was his remaining task to get them up and

running on the new software, and hooked up to printers.

Many changes are coming to the school of West Morris. It is changes like these that are

improving the transition of the students travel through the year. Here’s hoping.
