Explanation for trades

Vikings trade up for Mccarthy: The Chargers already have a quarterback in a top heavy QB class and the price to pay is two first round picks. Even though Mccarthy might be a reach at this spot, they need to hit on a QB to get Justin Jefferson to stay. It makes sense for the Chargers to move down because they need offensive line help and receiver help and by moving down they get both in the first round.

Steelers move up for Brian Thomas Jr: The Steelers are trying to put the pieces in place to get either Justin Fields or Russel Wilson to succeed in Pittsburgh. They were missing 2 things on offense, another receiver and a center. They got the center first because there’s only one really good one in this draft class and they couldn’t wait on it because the Eagles would have taken him at 22. Then they sat back and waited until a team needed to trade out. This team was the Lions who were in need of some DB’s but with all of them gone by the time their pick comes around they can easily trade out and get 2 second round picks, one this year and one next year and a 6th rounder this year for the 29th pick. This also makes the Steelers jump the division rival Ravens who are also in need of receiver help so it makes them more motivated to get their guy in Brian Thomas Jr.

Broncos trade up for Bo Nix: Broncos miss out on the top 4 guys and need a qb. Now, I’m not entirely sure they will trade up in the first round to do it or wait until the second round: however, I just wanted to include either Bo Nix or Michael Penix in my article because he’s a great player who if younger would be a top 20ish pick no doubt. He threw for only 3 interceptions while leading the NCAA in completion percentage with 10% above second place. Although his arm probably wont be above average for the league, in the right system he can find success.
