Introducing your 2022 Homecoming P.R.I.D.E Ambassador

And the winner is… Sofia Chan!

The WMC student body voted Sofia Chan as the best demonstrator of passion, respect, integrity, determination and empathy out of the five nominees. Chan shows a great dedication to both her academics and extracurricular activities. She excels in the classroom, taking on a rigorous course load and being an honor roll student. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and Chinese Honor Society.

Sofia is a member of both the soccer and basketball teams at WMC (Jen Sheppard)

Not only is she an excellent student, but she is also an exceptional athlete. Earning a varsity letter in both girls soccer and girls basketball. Chan was a key contributor to the girls soccer state title last year and their county tournament run. This year she was named captain of her team.

Apart from her academic and athletic success, Chan is involved in various extracurriculars including peer tutoring, REACH, Relay for Life, Students for Social Justice, Science League and Green Team. Chan serves as the president of the class of 2023 and has been involved with the student council since freshman year. She plays the violin for the WMC orchestra as well as the district symphony orchestra. Through Relay for Life specifically Chan has been able to make a difference outside of our school community being a member of the leadership committee. “I have witnessed what it is like to have a loved one fight and I want to do everything in my power to raise as much money as I can for the American Cancer Society to not only facilitate the lives of those fighting but also find a cure” she shared.

When asked which aspect of P.R.I.D.E. she best represents, Chan responded with respect; it is something that she has been taught by her parents since she was young.

Sofia Chan leads as a strong example for the WMC student body to follow in showing what having P.R.I.D.E. in the pack really means. Following her declaration as P.R.I.D.E ambassador Chan stated “I am very grateful to have been elected the Homecoming Pride Ambassador and to have been a part of the court alongside so many other amazing candidates. This new title not only reinforces the pride that I have for West Morris Central but also makes me want to thank all of the people that have helped me get to where I am today. I would not be where I am without my teachers, friends, teammates, coaches, and most of all, my family.”

Congratulations Sofia Chan for being named Homecoming P.R.I.D.E. Ambassador!
