New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez Indicted On Bribery Charges

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez Indicted On Bribery Charges

Senator Bob Menendez (D) was indicted on bribery charges on Friday, September 22. He has been facing calls to resign from both Democrats and Republicans. Amongst the list of politicians who have called on him to resign are State Senator Mike Testa (R), Former Gubernatorial Candidate Jack Ciattarelli (R), Jeff Van Drew (R), Junior Senator Cory Booker (D), and most notably the NJ Governor Philp Murphy (D).

It is alleged that Bob Menendez took a Mercedes as a bribe in connection with another crime he allegedly committed. The New York Post reports “Prosecutors allege the New Jersey senator offered to suppress an unrelated crime for a businessman in exchange for a new Mercedes following the crash.” But the main reason he was indicted was because he has been charged with allegedly aiding the Egyptian government for selfish reasons. Reuters reports,Senator Bob Menendez accepted bribes in exchange for wielding his influence to aid the Egyptian government.”

Nadine and Bob Menendez have pleaded not guilty at their court appearance on September 27th. Their trial date is set for May 6th, 2024.
