Blood is spilled in Ukraine. 6 ukrainian armed forces were killed on Tuesday, May 13th.  From what was gathered, the soldiers were believed to have been killed in a terrorist attack. The incident took place near the village Oktyabrski, located  in the Slovyansk region, which is 20 kilometers from Kramatorsk. The soldiers were ambushed during a unit movement from a military base to another in volatile Western Ukraine.

The soldiers were attacked in ambush with grenades. Reports tell that  the terrorist group that attacked the Ukrainian special forces  consisted of more than 30 people, who set the ambush near a river that the Ukrainian  Soldiers were about to cross. After a long shootout between the two groups, 6 of the Ukrainians were dead.

In another incident, in eastern ukraine, a separatist leader was injured in a suspected assassination attempt amid the continuing turmoil. The car carrying luhansk people’s governor Valeriy Bolotov was fired upon in the Luhansk region. Bolotov suffered  a gunshot injury during the attack but it was light. The Injury was confirmed to be not life threatening,  though the shooter’s identity is still unknown.

This goes to show that the tensions are rising in Ukraine, and the situation between Pro Russian and Pro Europe forces are heating up. Before the attack, pro russian separatists  had staged referendum on sunday, May 11th, asking  residents whether or not they should declare independence from ukraine.

Amidst the struggles, Ukraine Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk had strongs word for russia, where he saids that Russia continues to support separatists behind unrest. During his strong words to Russia, Yatsenyuk said  that Ukraine would pay what it owes, but only if Gazprom revises natural gas deal with market rates,  and that Russia stop using natural gas as another type of weapon.

The situation in  Eastern Ukraine is still volatile as of now. It was reported on CNN that on May 25th,  the Presidential elections will play a decisive role in restoring calm to Ukraine. Whether it works or not still remains to be seen.
