Chester Chocolate Factory Opens on Main Street

Want something covered in chocolate? Stop by the new Chester Chocolate Factory.

Allen McDowell, of Morristown, plans to open his factory in the next coming weeks. The doors to the Chester Chocolate Factory will open at 87 Main Street in Chester. After leaving his job in Wall Street stock trading, McDowell realized he had an entrepreneurial itch to scratch, and turned to researching everything chocolate. McDowell came across a group of craft chocolate makers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn four years ago, and began his own practice of working with single-origin cocoa beans, including organic and free trade products to help make a healthier dark chocolate product.

McDowell began creating the chocolate in a Dover production shop which will be offered to customers at the new store. But the shop will be more factory than chocolate shop, offering all ranges of items. Since McDowell also owns A Cut Above Fruit Arrangements, which sells and delivers fresh fruit bouquets and arrangements, many of that brand’s products will be sold in the Chocolate Factory store as well.

The store will offer products from Jelly Belly, candied apples and just about everything that can be covered in chocolate. Special orders for holidays and occasions will be available as well.

For those walking in Chester’s Main Street often, it may not seem all that different. The Chester Chocolate Factory is located in the space formerly occupied by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory after all. The atmosphere of the store will be family-style with a photo of a little league team behind the counter.

As its cases begin to fill in the coming days and final touches are add, the store should be expected to open on the weekend of June 14.
