The Language Honor Society helps donating eyeglasses “to reach out and help others in our communities”. A worldwide initiative reaches West Morris Central.

We live looking for happiness, Humanity is one of the ingredients to make your life happy. The book “Authentic Happiness” by Martin Seligman — a psychologist, educator, and author of self-help books — explains that ‘humanity’ is one of the six virtues to make life happier. ‘Charity’ is also one of the three theological virtues in Christian religions. Donating and volunteering are just some activities that have the purpose of humanity and charity.

Asking to interviewed Julie Kluse: “What would you do if you were asked to do something for anyone who needs help?” she answered:

“I discovered that helping others really gives me joy. I would do anything to help make someone else’s life a little easier and a little happier.”

The Language Honor Society of WMC decided to help the foundation “New Eyes for the Needy”, a foundation from New Jersey that helps children, adults and seniors not only in the United States, but also overseas, collecting and giving them eyeglasses that people don’t use anymore to give them a new life. Since the founding in 1932, New Eyes has improved the eyesight of more than eight millions people in the U.S. and around the world.

The foundation also reports that only in the United States eleven million people struggle with uncorrected vision and cannot afford eyeglasses.

Why has the foundation become so important? First of all, everyone can donate. Each donation makes the difference. You can make the difference, too. Second, it’s worldwide. The specially trained volunteers of the “Overseas Glasses” program distribute the glasses through international charitable organizations and small medical missions, too!

Old glasses in the drawer that you do not like anymore? Those glasses you bought but now you do not need anymore? Bring them to school. You can find a large box outside the main office in which you can leave your donation. There are also more boxes in rooms E127 and H116.

But, hurry up! Donations are from November 5 to December 5. If you ran out of time or you don’t have glasses, you can donate money. The operators of New Eyes will provide to buy a pair of glasses with your donation. Anything easier? To learn more about the foundation or how to donate money — or even if you are just bored — take a look to the official website www.new-eyes.org.
