Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate your loved ones. Whether your loved one is a significant other or a best friend, they deserve the appreciation. Some, however, find this specific holiday pointless or depressing. Others cherish the holiday and the opportunity to feel loved. WMC students also have different views on this holiday.
Sophomore Samantha Rosamilia states, “I love Valentine’s Day. I think it’s a really good holiday. I love getting chocolate and stuffed animals from my Dad because it really makes me feel good.” Sophomore Raffaella Kinney states, “I like Valentine’s Day a lot. I think even if you’re celebrating it with yourself, your friends, your family, or your significant other. I think overall it’s a fun time to celebrate the people you love no matter who it is.”
Others find that Valentine’s Day brings up feelings of loneliness or even bad memories. Sophomore Samantha Varela recalls that one year her and her Valentine went to the movies. She states, “He made me pay for all the tickets. He bought himself a large popcorn and reached his hand in the popcorn. Me, my friend, and the guy she was talking to were there and he said ‘Oh, why don’t you kiss Sammie?’ He’s like ‘because my lips are too buttery.’”
Some students don’t seem to care a significant amount about the holiday. Sophomore Johnny Vieira states, “It’s alright but an overrated holiday. I don’t really do anything special. I feel like it’s a stupid holiday.” Sophomore Mathew Thomas agrees, calling it “alright.”
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, take the opportunity to celebrate with the people who matter, whether you like the holiday or not!
