Who Won Dancing With the Stars?

Victoria Valentino

After a season of Tangos, Salsas, and Jitterbugs, the finale of Dancing With the Stars Season 18 was announced. On May 20th, the top three contestants were Candace Cameron, Meryl Davis, and Amy Purdy.

When it came down to the results, Davis ranked supreme. Not only was this her first mirror ball trophy, it was the first time her partner Maks Chmerkovskiy won the show. This was a shock to many viewers that he has not won due to his ongoing popularity throughout the show’s run.

This finale was jam packed with entertainment throughout the show. In addition to the three couple’s finale dances, there were show-stopping performances by Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, and Christina Perri.

The third place finishers, Candace Cameron and her partner Mark Ballas, danced the quickstep. Which received mixed views by the judges.

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough gave an inspiring Cha Cha/ Tango fusion. The crowd was moved to tears as she glided across the dance floor. (For those who don’t follow, Purdy was an olympic skater who lost her legs to meningitis.)

Finally, Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy danced the Foxtrot and Cha Cha fusion. This performance arguably won them the show. Every step was more flawless than the next. And the chemistry between the two partners is undeniable. (Rumors of an off-camera romance between Davis and Chmerkovskiy have been brewing through the duration of the season)

At the end of the night, Meryl and Maks took home the famous mirror ball trophy. Viewers will have to tune in next season to see what stars enter the competition next!
