Rudy Giuliani Tests Positive for Coronavirus

This past Sunday, December 6th, President Trump announced on Twitter that his personal attorney, Rudy Guiliani tested positive for the Coronavirus. On Sunday afternoon, Trump posted the following tweet:

Confirmed by CNN on Sunday, Guiliani was admitted into Georgetown University Hospital. Later on, Guiliani confirmed his positive test through Twitter, and assured the public  he was receiving adequate care. However, the severity of Guiliani’s condition is unknown to reporters as no further details have been provided.

The announcement of Guiliani’s Coronavirus diagnosis does not come as a surprise to many on account of Guiliani travelling the country to fight legal battles for the President over the past few weeks. According to NPR, Guiliani was seen last Wednesday, December 2nd, maskless in Lansing, MI until talking to lawmakers at a hearing. Similarly, the following day, Guiliani was found to not be wearing a mask while talking to Georgia state senators. Guiliani’s maskless interactions span farther than just the past few weeks. Dating back to September 27th, Guiliani was visibly maskless at a news conference in the White House briefing room while sitting closely next to former New Jersey governor Chris Christie and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany. Guiliani’s recurring patterns of neglecting to wear a mask in public events, especially at potential “superspreader” events, leaves clear explanation for his recent diagnosis.

Guiliani’s COVID-19 diagnosis comes after a string of Trump’s close inner circle has been diagnosed with the coronavirus dating back to early October. Among those infected, Rudy Guiliani’s son, Andrew Guiliani, tested positive for the virus on November 20th. Due to Guiliani being considered higher risk when contracting Coronavirus, the complete disregard for regulations and social distancing raises concern for officials as many prominent political figures like Guiliani associated with the White House are collectively maskless for nearly every public outing, event, news conference, etc.

With news of Guiliani’s positive COVID test, news outlets have taken closer looks at how Guiliani’s diagnosis is just another indication of the United State’s record number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 patients. Particularly, how the fight against the Coronavirus is far from over. As stated by CNN, “a surge in deaths and experts and health care workers fear things will only get worse, with a potential spike of infections fueled by Thanksgiving travel and gatherings.”

With the announcement of Guiliani’s diagnosis, Guiliani’s hospitalization serves as a reminder of the importance of following health regulations and never underestimating the power of a virus.
