On May 13, 2026, the show adaptation of the Off Campus book series released its first season on Prime Video. All eight episodes of the first season were released at once. The storyline follows students at the fictional Briar University, meant to be an Ivy League university, in Massachusetts.
The main characters are music major Hannah Wells, and the hockey team captain Garrett Graham. They decide to “fake date” so that Hannah can get the attention of her actual crush, Justin. Hannah tutors Garrett in exchange for the fake dating scheme. As time goes on, they eventually catch real feelings for each other. The show also contains subplots that follow Hannah’s best friend and roommate, Allie Hayes, as well as other hockey players like Dean Di Laurentis, John Logan, and John Tucker.
This series has been getting a lot of positive attention online because of the emotionally intelligent characters, the casting, and even the sexual assault representation.
WMC Sophomore Evelyn Valencia did not read the books, but she enjoyed the show series all the same. Despite what some critics say online about it being unlikeable due to the dialogue and tropes, she found it to be cute because she “loved the relationships formed in it.” Valencia has never had any complaints with previous book adaptations and thinks that this show “nailed it.” She also thought that the sexual assault representation seen in the show was a topic that viewers needed to face. “I think it’s important for her case to be across the media so people who may have gone through something similar realize they are more than what they went through and should feel comfortable taking a stand and sharing,” Valencia stated.
Another WMC Sophomore, Anna Sachko, also agrees that the show is amazing and does not need to be changed at all, despite not having read the books before watching the show. She really enjoyed the subplots that featured Allie, and that in the next season she “would really love for [Allie and Dean] to get together because they share many similar interests and would go well together.” The hockey romance genre is gaining a lot of popularity in film, and Sachko states that she happens to “enjoy these types of shows and would love for more to come out.”
As of now, Off Campus has been a hit all across social media and among the WMC student body. Season two has already begun filming, and fans are waiting eagerly for season two to come out next year!
